Inclusion and Diversity in Research Meeting with Michael McAlinden
Thank you to Michael McAlinden for joining the PCRNI team to discuss the importance of inclusion in research, and how we can work together to ensure research reflects the diversity of communities across Northern Ireland.
As Inclusion Lead for the HSC Research and Development Division within the PHA, Michael plays a key role in embedding inclusion and collaboration at every stage of the research journey.
From research planning, to participant recruitment and dissemination of research findings, it is essential that we listen to diverse voices, value lived experiences and work together to address barriers and challenges.
We also discussed the importance of outreach and education in making research more accessible and better understood. By demystifying research, we hope to show that, at its heart, research begins with curiosity – asking “Why?” and “How do we know?”
For the PCRNI team, being present within communities and building genuine partnerships based on equality and trust is at the core of our work. We look forward to continuing to champion inclusion and diversity in research, helping to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to be involved and that research benefits all of society.
